How it works

  1. 01

    Enable recording in Google Meet

In Meet, click the three dots (⋮) → "Record meeting". The recording becomes available in the organizer's Google Drive after the meeting (usually in 15-30 minutes). Note: recording is only available for Workspace Business Standard, Plus, or Enterprise.

  2. 02

Download the file from Google Drive

Go to drive.google.com → the recording appears in "My Drive" with a name in the format "[Meeting Name] [date].mp4". Right-click → Download. The file is a good-quality .mp4.

  3. 03

    Transcribe with VoxScriber

Upload the .mp4 to VoxScriber. In 2-3 minutes for a 1-hour meeting, you get the full transcription with speaker identification. Export to Word to send the minutes by email.

Frequently asked questions

How do I record and transcribe a Google Meet meeting?

To record: in Meet, click ⋮ → "Record meeting" (available on Workspace Business Standard+). The recording goes to Google Drive. To transcribe: 1) Download the .mp4 from Drive. 2) Upload to VoxScriber. 3) Wait 2-3 min for a 1h meeting. 4) Export minutes in DOCX.

Where is the Google Meet recording stored?

Meet recordings are stored in the meeting organizer's Google Drive, in the "Meet Recordings" folder. After the meeting, the organizer receives an email with a direct link to the recording. The file is .mp4. Participants do not receive the recording automatically — the organizer must share it.

Can I transcribe Meet without the native recording?

Yes. If you don't have access to a paid Workspace plan, you can record your computer screen during the meeting with OBS Studio (free) or Loom. The generated file is .mp4 or .mkv — fully compatible with VoxScriber.

Is VoxScriber transcription better than Meet's automatic captions?

Yes. Meet's automatic captions (Google Speech) have moderate accuracy, especially for regional accents, technical terms, and overlapping speech. VoxScriber uses AssemblyAI, which is consistently more accurate. Additionally, VoxScriber saves and exports — Meet captions do not.

How do I share the Meet transcription with my team?

After exporting to DOCX: 1) Open in Google Docs (File → Import). 2) Edit as needed. 3) Share via Google Drive with your team. Or export as PDF and email. DOCX preserves formatting with speaker names in bold.

Does it work with Meet on mobile (Android/iOS)?

Recordings in the Meet mobile app are not available for direct download on the phone. The recording is stored in Drive and can be downloaded on a computer. To transcribe from mobile, go to drive.google.com, download the file, then upload to VoxScriber via the mobile browser.
