Record Audio Directly in the Browser and Transcribe
Use VoxScriber's built-in browser recorder to capture meetings, classes, and voice notes, then transcribe them instantly — no install needed.
You don't need an external recorder: the New transcription screen has a built-in recorder. You can record the meeting, class, or voice note right there and send it for transcription right after — it works on both computer and mobile, with nothing to install.
Open the recorder
From the dashboard, go to New transcription and choose the recording option. The first time, the browser will ask for permission to use your microphone — allow it, otherwise the recording won't start.
Record
Speak normally, keeping the microphone close to the sound source. The recording is saved in the browser's native format (WebM/Opus in most browsers; MP4 in browsers that only support that format — such as some Apple browsers). You don't need to worry about this: either one is accepted.
Send for transcription
When you stop the recording, the file enters the upload queue like a normal upload: choose the engine and language, then start. The duration is measured in your browser while recording, so even formats without a duration header work.
Limits that apply to recording
- Recording counts as a regular file: the duration and size limits of your plan apply (30 min per file on the free plan);
- Free and Lite accounts have a cap of 5 simultaneous files being processed — the screen shows this notice in the upload area;
- The cost in cycles is the same as any audio (4 cycles/min on Premium, 1 on Standard).
Keep the tab open while recording and uploading. The recording happens in your browser — closing the tab in the middle interrupts the capture. After the upload completes, you can close it: processing continues on the server.
For long recordings (1h+), plug your notebook into the power outlet and disable power-saving mode — some systems suspend background tabs and may pause microphone capture.
Privacy: what if I don't want to send the audio?
If the content is sensitive, you can transcribe the recording with the Nano engine, which runs entirely in your browser — the audio never leaves your device and costs 0 cycles (with its own monthly quota per plan). See Local transcription in the browser.
Frequently asked questions
The browser doesn't ask for microphone permission / says "blocked".
Click the padlock icon in the address bar and allow the microphone for the site, then reload the page.
What format is the recording saved in?
WebM with Opus codec in most browsers; MP4 when the browser only supports that format. Both are normally accepted.
Can I record several voice notes in sequence?
Yes — each recording becomes a file in the queue. Remember your plan's simultaneous-file cap (5 on free/Lite).
Does recording consume cycles?
Recording doesn't. Transcribing the recording consumes cycles according to the chosen engine — or 0 cycles on Nano.
