Accepted Formats and Upload Limits by Plan
Real list of accepted audio and video formats (more than 60, including automatic conversion), maximum file size and maximum audio duration in each VoxScriber plan.
The rule of thumb: if it is a real audio or video file, it will almost certainly be accepted — there are more than 60 extensions, and anything that is not native goes through automatic conversion on the server. What varies by plan is the size and maximum duration of each file.
Accepted formats
Audio (native, no conversion):
.mp3 .wav .m4a .aac .ogg .oga .flac .wma .opus .amr .mp2 .3ga .mpga .webm
Video (audio is extracted automatically on the server):
.mp4 .webm .mov .avi .mkv .wmv .flv .f4v .3gp .3g2 .m4v .mpg .mpeg .ts .mts .vob .m2ts .asf .ogv
Converted automatically before transcribing (29 formats, including professional ones):
.aiff .aif .caf .ac3 .dts .mka .ra .wv .spx .m4b .ape .alac .m4p .rm .rmvb .divx .xvid .m3u8 .dash .mxf .r3d .braw .prores .dnxhd .hevc .h264 .vp8 .vp9
The conversion is transparent — you just upload; see Automatic format conversion.
Audio editor projects are not media. Files like .aup3 (Audacity), .sesx (Adobe Audition), .ptx (Pro Tools), .flp (FL Studio) and .als (Ableton) are projects, not recordings. When they are refused, the system shows the export instruction — in Audacity, for example: File → Export → MP3 or WAV. Documents (PDF, DOC, TXT), images, compressed files and executables are also refused.
Limits by plan
| Plan | Max duration per file | Max size per file |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 30 min | 500 MB |
| Lite | 60 min | 1 GB |
| Advanced | 120 min | 2 GB |
| Professional / Premium | 240 min | 5 GB |
| Enterprise / Hour packages | 600 min (10 h) | 5 GB |
- The platform's absolute ceiling is 5 GB per file;
- There is a 10% tolerance (minimum 2 minutes) above the nominal duration before blocking — a 31-minute audio file goes through on the free plan;
- If the file exceeds your plan's limit, the upload is refused with the limit indicated — the solution is to split the file or upgrade.
What about the monthly limit?
On the free plan, usage is governed by a 120-cycle balance (30 minutes in Premium or up to 120 minutes in Standard), renewed every 30 days — currently without an additional monthly minute limit. On paid plans, the limit is simply your cycle balance.
Frequently asked questions
Why was my 800 MB file refused on the free plan?
The free plan accepts up to 500 MB per file. Compress/convert the file to a smaller format (an MP3 of the same recording is usually much smaller than the WAV or video) or consider upgrading.
Does WhatsApp audio (.ogg/.opus) work?
Yes, natively — including .opus and .amr recordings from phone recorders.
Can I upload video? Do I need to extract the audio first?
You can upload the video directly — the audio extraction is automatic on the server. Only the audio track is used.
Which format gives the best transcription?
The one you already have. Recording quality (close microphone, little noise) matters much more than file format.
Is there a limit to how many files I can upload at once?
Yes, a cap on simultaneous files per plan (5 on Free/Lite). See Batch uploading multiple files.
