Subscription Renewal and Lifecycle
What happens at each renewal in VoxScriber: cycle accumulation, what happens when a payment fails, grace period, suspension, and how to reactivate.
Your subscription goes through predictable states: active, renewing, in grace (if the payment fails), suspended (if the failure persists), or canceled. This article shows what happens in each one — and most importantly: a payment failure doesn't knock you down right away.
Normal renewal
On the renewal date (every 30 days for monthly, 365 for annual), the plan's cycles are added to your remaining balance, capped at 2× the plan's cycles — you never lose balance on renewal. Details and examples in How credits work.
Payment failed: grace period (no panic)
If the renewal charge fails (card declined, Automatic PIX without balance):
- You enter a grace period — your plan and credits are kept, no downgrade;
- New automatic charge attempts happen during the first week;
- Email reminders arrive on days 3 and 7, and late recovery retries on days 10, 20, and 30 (dates deliberately aligned with paychecks);
- Day 35 without payment: we give up charging that renewal.
When the first window's attempts run out without success, the subscription is suspended and the account is downgraded to the Free plan.
Got a pending payment notice? Settle it via the email link or the billing page in the dashboard — once you pay, everything goes back to normal, with your plan and balance preserved.
Suspension and reactivation
A suspended account sees blocking banners in the dashboard and reverts to the Free plan. To reactivate, use the reactivation path in the suspension email (or the billing page): once you settle it, your subscription comes back.
When downgraded to Free, the balance preserves active one-off purchases (hour packages and custom balance never expire) and the 120-cycle floor of the Free plan.
Cancellation
Canceling is different from simply not paying: cancellation is scheduled for the end of the paid cycle — you keep access until then and there's no new charge. See the step-by-step in How to cancel your subscription.
Suspension zeroes out the subscription benefit, but does not erase your transcriptions or your one-off cycles. What you lose is the plan (limits, extra engines, priority) until you settle it.
Frequently asked questions
My card was declined — do I lose access immediately?
No. You enter a grace period with your plan and credits kept while new charge attempts are made. Only a persistent failure leads to suspension.
How many days do I have to settle it?
Retries go through day 7; then, new charges on days 10, 20, and 30. On day 35 we give up on that charge. The sooner you settle, the lower the risk of suspension.
I was downgraded to Free — did my cycles disappear?
The plan's recurring cycles stop applying, but active one-off purchases are preserved, plus the 120-cycle floor of Free.
How do I reactivate my suspended account?
Through the reactivation link in the suspension email or the billing page in the dashboard. Once you settle the payment, the plan comes back.
I renewed and the balance didn't double — why?
Renewal adds the plan's cycles to your balance, but respects the cap of 2× the plan's cycles. Above the cap, the plan's excess isn't added (separately granted bonuses are preserved).
