Export SRT and VTT Subtitles
How to download synchronized SRT and VTT subtitles, from which plan they are available, and why an SRT may come out empty.
Any transcription with timestamps can become a synchronized subtitle in two formats: SRT (the universal standard, accepted by YouTube, video editors, and players) and VTT (the web standard, for HTML5 players and online courses). Both are available starting from the Lite plan.
How to Download the Subtitle
Open the transcription
In your library, open the transcription of the video or audio you want to subtitle.
Export as SRT or VTT
In the export menu, choose SRT (for video editors and YouTube) or VTT (for web players). The download is immediate.
Import into your editor or platform
Upload the file to your video platform (YouTube, Vimeo) or import it into your editor. The timestamps are already synchronized with the original audio.
How Subtitles Are Segmented
The generator segments the text for comfortable reading:
- Blocks of at most 30 seconds and 80 characters;
- Automatic break when the speaker changes;
- When available, the native segmentation from the Premium engine is used, with short subtitles (about 42 characters per line).
Edits you saved in the editor are included in the locally generated subtitle — review the text before exporting so you don't take errors into the video.
Why Did My SRT Come Out Empty?
Subtitles depend on timestamps. If the transcription has no time markings (neither by word nor by segment), the file will come out empty. This can happen, for example, with transcriptions made through paths that do not preserve timestamps.
In that case, the solution is to re-transcribe the file with a cloud engine (Premium, Standard, or Ultra), which always generates timestamps.
Not sure which format to choose? Use SRT for video editors and platforms (YouTube natively accepts SRT) and VTT when the destination is a web/HTML5 player.
In old transcriptions (more than ~3 months), the engine's native subtitle source may have expired — the platform then generates the subtitle locally from the saved timestamps. The file still comes out normally; only the segmentation may vary slightly.
